Laboratory Safety Manager

ArsenalBio’s mission is to develop efficacious and safe cellular therapies for patients with chronic diseases, initially cancer.  Our products are being designed to herald the transition of adoptive cell therapy from a hospital based treatment to outpatient therapy, like most other cancer treatments.

ArsenalBio is seeking a Laboratory Safety Officer to join our Operations Team. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this position will support the science of our lab by overseeing the safe use of biohazardous material in accordance with all applicable regulations. The Lab Safety Officer will ensure adequate biosafety training and practices to avoid potential hazards associated with the handling of biohazardous material, the spread of pathogens and threats of contamination sources. The Lab Safety Officer will develop training materials, monitor adherence to laboratory biosafety policies, and assist with risk assessments and risk mitigation plans.

What Will You Do:

  • Lead the EHS Program: 
  • Provide a positive Laboratory Onboarding experience for new lab users by leading hands-on/video training sessions (Aseptic technique, Haz Waste, BBP, etc)
  • Be ArsenalBio’s in-house EHS Steward by ensuring all required safety trainings are attended and tracked
  • Enable and enforce adherence to all lab safety policies, including the use of PPE
  • Own and optimize the hazardous and biohazardous materials waste streams
  • Be ArsenalBio’s Chemical Hygiene Officer and maintain updated chemical inventory & SDS files
  • Conduct quarterly lab inspections to ensure adherence to all EHS policies as well as adherence to good lab practice 
  • Track accident/incident reports and recommend corrective actions as needed
  • Design work practices and procedures (SOPs) to minimize exposure to hazards and adhere to regulatory requirements
  • Work with key partners to improve communications, emergency management and response practices

  • Assist Laboratory Management with: 
  • Organization of lab in-use materials on benches and in cold storage
  • Tracking contamination reports & providing guidance on decontamination procedures
  • Enforcing Lab Upkeep and adherence to Good Lab Practices
  • Any other miscellaneous tasks to improve operational efficiency in the labs
  • What Will You Bring:

  • 5+ years of relevant EHS and laboratory management experience
  • Strong knowledge of EHS compliance laws & industrial hygiene regulations
  • Knowledge of clinical and/or public health microbiology and general lab practices
  • Knowledge & skill in the application of physical containment requirements for safely working with biohazardous material
  • Experience working in BSL2 labs 
  • Adept at developing & delivering safety trainings
  • Skillful at driving, managing and maintaining change
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and knowledge on the job, demonstrate productivity, and deliver high-quality results
  • Proficiency in GSuite and other productivity tools
  • Demonstrate strategic planning and thinking
  • Ability to multitask as needed in a start-up environment
  • Knowledge of cGMP/FDA regulated industry a plus
